His first major success came in 1997, when he won the British Super A championship. His talent was soon noticed by scouts from higher competitions and Button moved to Formula Ford, where he won the British title in 1998. The following year he continued his upward trajectory, racing in British Formula 3, where he finished third overall and won the famous Macau race. These successes made Button one of the most sought-after young talents and in 2000 he entered the world of Formula 1 as a driver for the Williams team, becoming the youngest British driver in history. He scored six points in his debut season and proved himself to be a fast and talented driver. In the following years Button raced for various teams including Benetton (later renamed Renault), BAR, Honda and Brawn GP. It was at Brawn GP that his greatest success came when he won the 2009 World Championship title. The team, led by Ross Brawn, created a revolutionary car that dominated the season and Button was able to exploit its potential to the maximum. He won six of the first seven races of the 2009 season and eventually secured the title by a comfortable margin. Following this triumph, Button moved to McLaren, where he raced alongside other notable drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. In his first season at McLaren (2010) he finished fifth overall, but by the following year (2011) he had improved to second in the championship, winning three races and regularly finishing on the podium. Button continued with McLaren until 2016, when he decided to retire from active racing in Formula 1. During his Formula 1 career, he competed in 306 races, scoring 15 wins, 50 podium finishes and a total of 1,235 points.
